St. John Chrysostom

St. John Chrysostom (c. 347-407), Archbishop of Constantinople, Doctor of the Church, and the greatest preacher of the early Greek Church. "Chrysostom" — "Golden Mouth" — is a posthumous epithet. Born at Antioch, he served as priest there for twelve years before his consecration as Archbishop of Constantinople in 398. He was exiled for his attacks on imperial luxury and died at Comana Pontica on September 14, 407. The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is the anaphora most commonly used in the Byzantine Rite. Patron of preachers, lecturers, and public speakers.
