Home to Our Lady of the Cape Shrine, Cap-de-la-Madeleine is Canada's national Marian shrine with miraculous origins dating to 1888.

History: The site began with a chapel in 1888, with the current basilica constructed and elevated to minor basilica status on August 15, 1964, by Pope Paul VI. It was consecrated on July 4, 1976. The shrine is famous for the miracle of the frozen river and the preservation of a small statue of Our Lady, leading to its canonical crowning. It became a national shrine due to its Marian devotion.
